Beds, blankets & toys

The soft half of the studio. Every cover unzips, every blanket fits a car seat as well as a sofa, and the toys are stuffed with our own offcuts rather than new fill.

Beds

Three sizes in two shapes — a round nest for curlers, a flat mat for sprawlers. The cover comes off in one piece.

Toys

No squeakers, no plastic eyes, no rattles. Offcut-stuffed and double-stitched at every seam, because the seam is where they always go first.

Choosing a bed size

Measure the dog asleep, not standing. Curlers need roughly their nose-to-tail length as a diameter; sprawlers need that length plus fifteen centimetres in each direction. A bed a dog cannot fully stretch out on will still get used, but it will be used as a pillow with the body on the floor, which rather defeats the purpose.

Washing covers and toys

Bed covers unzip along two sides and wash at 40°. The inner is a polyester fibre pad which can also go in, though it wants a full day to dry through. Toys wash at 30° in a bag; the offcut stuffing recovers its shape once it is dry and shaken out.

Why no squeakers

Two reasons. A squeaker is the piece most likely to be swallowed if a seam fails, and the sound rewards exactly the behaviour — shaking and tearing — that ends the toy's life fastest. We would rather sell one toy that lasts two years than four that last three months each.
